The College of Wooster won for the fifth time in seven matches, this time registering its most decisive victory of the season, 8-1 over Capital University during non-conference women's tennis action Saturday at Columbus, Ohio.
Wooster (7-7) started the match strong, sweeping the doubles competition. Catherine Christian and Melanie Chin teamed for an 8-2 triumph at the top of the lineup, Rose Chiumento and Lauren Gilliss doubled up their opponents at No. 2, 8-4, and Rachel Dietz and Rachel Appleton rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 3.
The Scots were equally dominant in singles. Christian yielded just three games during a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position, while Chiumento and Chin were even more dominant at No. 2 (6-0, 6-2) and No. 3 (6-0, 6-1), respectively. Also scoring points for the team were Dietz, who prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at the fourth slot, and Gilliss, who toppled her foe 6-1, 6-0 at the sixth position.
Next, Wooster gets into North Coast Athletic Conference East Division action as it welcomes No. 30 ranked Oberlin College (13-4, 0-0 NCAC East) for a 4:30 p.m. match-up on Wednesday.
