The College of Wooster women's tennis team made its spring debut on Thursday night inside on the Scot Center courts, but playing against a squad in Otterbein University that already had three spring matches under its belt, the Fighting Scots lack of match play may have hurt as they fell by a 9-0 count.
Despite the setback, Wooster (1-3) had several positive results to build on, especially in singles action. At the sixth position, Lauren Gilliss split 6-2 sets with her opponent before dropping a super tiebreaker, 10-5, while first-year teammates Catherine Christian and Rose Chiumento competed well atop the lineup. Christian won five games before settling for a 6-3, 6-2 setback at No. 1 and Chiumento took four off her foe in a 6-2, 6-2 loss at No. 2.
The Scots will look to bounce back Saturday when they play at John Carroll University.
