Both Scot Teams Finish Fourth at Oberlin's Invite

Both College of Wooster track & field teams came in fourth-place at Friday’s Crimson & Gold Invitational, hosted by Oberlin College, though, the women’s field consisted of nine teams and the men just seven.

Led by Kayla Miller’s individual victory in the triple jump, the Fighting Scot women’s team totaled 73 points. Miller reached a mark of 33 feet, 5.75 inches, while teammate Elizabeth Wardrop also advanced to the finals of the event en route to a sixth-place finish (29 feet, 9.5 inches).

Wooster’s Suzanne Capehart was the runner-up in the 1000 meters (3:18.76), followed not far behind by Meredith Shaul in fifth-place (3:29.85). Capehart also made an impact in the 500 meters, an event which saw Ali Drushal come in third (1:28.17), with Chelsea Fisher and Capehart next to cross the line in fourth (1:28.76) and fifth (1:28.98), respectively.

Drushal cleared 9 feet, 2.25 inches in the pole vault for fourth-place and Wardrop tied for fifth in the high jump (4 feet, 7.75 inches), and another top performer for the Scots was Natasha Blaise, who recorded the third-fastest time in the 300 meters (47.02).

The top event for Wooster’s men’s team, which scored 78.33 points, was the triple jump as well, with Eric Dyer taking top honors via a mark of 43 feet, 9.25 inches and Averell Gatton earning the runner-up position (40 feet, 6 inches). Ramses Clements scored some valuable points by finishing fourth (39 feet, 1 inch).

Dyer nearly won the long jump as well, settling for second-place (20 feet, 0.25 inches), while the Scots’ Jon Mathis and Robert McConnell tied for second in the high jump (5 feet, 10.75 inches) and pole vault (12 feet, 7.5 inches), respectively. Gatton complemented Mathis in the high jump, tying for fifth (5 feet, 8.75 inches).

On the track, Bryan Albani was third in the 55-meter hurdles finals (7.93), just 0.14 seconds behind the winner, and Julian Mangano had the third-fastest time in the 500 meters (1:10.78).

Next Friday, Wooster will be at the Kenyon Invitational.
