Overtime Thriller Leads Wooster to First NCAC Win

Junior Andreas Xenofontos hit the game-winner in the 94th minute of the first overtime to send The College of Wooster men's soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 win over DePauw University on Saturday.

The game-winner occurred just a few minutes into the overtime when sophomore Bennett Anderson led Xenofontos as far as he could without being offsides. Xenofontos took the pass and promptly scored near the top of the goal box.

It was Xenofontos's fourth goal of the season and second of the game. Earlier he made it a 2-1 game in the 51st minute after connecting on a penalty kick.

Wooster had to respond to a goal from Jay Klein in the 22nd minute. They did so with a header by junior Dani Halbing in the 35th minute with classmate BJ Tally on the assist. It was the Halbing's first collegiate goal.

The Scots did all they could to play keep away from the Tigers, but DePauw was able to sneak a goal into the back of the net in the 85th minute to force overtime. Sam Kramer scored the goal.

It was a competitive game throughout as both teams took 13 shots. Three yellows and one red card were issued.

Senior goalkeeper Will Collis made three saves. His counterpart Dylan Ruzbasan collected four.

Wooster moves to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC with the win. DePauw drops to 7-4 and 1-1 in the NCAC.

The Scots travel to Ohio Wesleyan University next Saturday.
