OWU Upends Wooster 2-1 in Extra Period

Isabelle Howes delivered a goal late in the second half to tie the game at 1-1, but Ohio Wesleyan University scored in overtime to upend The College of Wooster 2-1 Saturday afternoon in a North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey match-up at Delaware, Ohio.

The Scots (6-7, 5-4 NCAC) outshot the Bishops (5-8, 3-7 NCAC) by an 8-3 margin in the first half, but three saves by golakeeper Emily Temple and a defensive save by Kelsey Morgan kept the contest scoreless headed into the break.

In the second half, Macie Miller got loose inside the circle and rattled the cage at 44:20 to give Ohio Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. Then in the 66th minute of action, Howes went on a mini-breakaway and scored on a backhanded shot that knotted the score and sent the game to overtime. It was the fifth goal of the year for Howes.

Finally, in the extra period, Wooster wasn't able to generate much of an offensive attack, and Ohio Wesleyan's Miller scored her second goal at 82:34 after her redirection shot was defelcted by Liz Plumley, but still found its was into the cage.

Clare Nelson-Johnson led Wooster with five shot attempts, while Howes, Brittany Braun, Anna Divis, and Shelby Stone each fired off two shots. In goal, Plumley recorded six saves.

The Scots will look to keep pace in the NCAC standings with a visit to Kenyon College Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
